Baton Rouge Area - Education Community outreach

Education
We view our youth as our most promising natural resource we know. Today’s students are the future of our community and they will staff our operations in the years to come. Much of our education support focuses on improving student learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM areas).

K-12 Education
Through Ambassadors Committed to Education (ACE) and ExxonMobil Community Outreach Team (EMCOT), we partner with local schools to foster students’ interest in math and science. We have been a supporter of Junior Achievement (JA) since its inception in Baton Rouge. In fact, M. J. Rathbone, a past manager of the Baton Rouge Refinery, helped start the local chapter in 1956. We are also an ongoing supporter of the High School for Engineering Professions (HSEP) program at Scotlandville Magnet High School.

We work with the Academic Distinction Fund (ADF) and their MASTER (Math And Science Teacher Excellence Rewards) Teachers Program to assist teachers in furthering their careers. Through ExxonMobil Foundation contributions, many area teachers can participate in classroom grants, networking and training. We also contribute to Louisiana Resource Center for Educators (LRCE), our longtime partner.  Annually, ExxonMobil Science Days brings local students to the Louisiana Art and Science Museum (LASM) to learn about Math and Science.

ExxonMobil partnered with golfer Phil Mickelson to launch the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy. In the summer of 2010, over 40 teachers from Baton Rouge area elementary schools joined 200 teachers from across the country to attend the Mickelson ExxonMobil Teachers Academy.

This past summer, ExxonMobil Baton Rouge hosted the Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp and the Sally Ride Science Festival.

Higher Education
Louisiana State University and Southern University continue to benefit from ExxonMobil employees who use the ExxonMobil Matching Gift Program. We also provide support for Baton Rouge Community College's Process Technology Program.
